About the Quill Gordon and Your Hosts, Valerie and Martin Oakland

The Quill Gordon is named for fly fisherman Theodore Gordon's imitation of a hatching mayfly.  The Oakland family designed and built their home in 1950 on choice acreage in the beautiful Battenkill River valley to reflect the strength and clean lines of native Scandinavian architecture.  In 1998, Martin Oakland and his wife Valerie completed major renovations to this wonderful and cherished homestead in the setting that they so loved.  More than a decade later, they continue to invite guests to share in this serene riverfront environment.

Martin Oakland is a native of Arlington and a lifelong outdoorsman with unrivaled passions for hunting and fly fishing, both in the greater Southern Vermont region and destinations afar.  Valerie Oakland has dedicated her career to teaching the young schoolchildren of Arlington at Fisher Elementary.  Together the Oaklands offer their home to guests as a retreat from everyday life into the peaceful and private riverside accommodations of the Quill Gordon Bed & Breakfast.
